October Happenings and Updates - Bluebonnet Circle Service Unit

Campfire Cooking Lessons

Girl Scout Senior Troop 710 taught Brownies and Juniors a lot about campfire cooking in the heat of early October. Due to the fire ban, coals were heated in a contained starter-can on concrete. The coals heated a dutch oven and solar box to cook taco soup, garlic bread and s'mores pie. Chili mac was cooked over a camp stove. The girls also learned knife safety by making fruit salad and how to light a match and stove lighters. Between tasks, they played camp games and sang songs.

CPR Training

At the October Service Unit meeting, three Cadettes shared about their Silver Award projects just before 60 or so volunteers from troops across the service unit received their CPR training.

Each troop on the Bluebonnet Circle Service Unit can redeem up to two CPR trainings between this school year and next to ensure compliance with Girl Scouts USA requirements.

The CPR training is courtesy of service unit funds to support our troop volunteers.

Additional volunteers and older Girl Scouts can pay for certification at these events. Watch the event registration page for the Spring training date!

JGL Tie-dye Extravaganza

Junior Troop 41395 continued the service unit tradition of celebrating founder Juliette Gordon Low's birthday this month.

About 100 Girl Scouts from Daisies through Cadettes tie-dyed their Bluebonnet Circle Service Unit t-shirts, played traditional games and participated in a service project. They earned a fun patch and three of five steps towards the Girl Scout Way badge.

Troops brought birthday cake mix, icing and candles, then decorated pan lids for birthday box donations to the food bank at our venue host: Covenant United Methodist Church. 40 birthday boxes were decorated and donated, complete with a handmade birthday card made on site. (arrow for pics)

Bluebonnet Circle SU T-shirts

Girl Scouts and troop leaders registered for the current Girl Scout year before October 1, 2024, and having submitted their shirt size to the SU at by Oct. 15, can pick up their free shirts Oct. 27 at Singing Sundae. Singing Sundae is another great event to earn much of the Girl Scout Way badge.

Interested in purchasing additional service unit t-shirts for adult volunteers or late-registered girl scouts? Troops must submit orders by Nov. 5th here.

Payment is due at the time of submission. Pick up at the November 14 service unit meeting.

Council's April early-bird registration incentives were fun patches. They are now available in your Troop mailbox accessible at service unit meetings. If you are unable to attend a service unit meeting, contact bluebonnetcirclegs@gmail.com to arrange a pick up time.

Showcase your Girl Scouts by sending pictures and stories to bluebonnetcirclegs@gmail.com for inclusion in a future BBCSU newsletter.

Review notes from the service unit volunteer meeting for important updates and information.
